What does “Kokum" mean?
Kokum is Garcinia Indica, a plant in the mangosteen family, commonly known as kokum, and is a fruit-bearing tree that has culinary and pharmaceutical uses. Kokum is indigenous to the Western Ghats region of India located along the western coast of the Indian subcontinent.
In the ancient Ayurvedic Texts of medicine and healing - Caraka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and Astanga Hridaya, Kokum has been mentioned in the treatment of Bowel problems, ear infection, skin conditions, menstruation delays, ulcers and sores.
Modern day, The western world has declared this a "Super food" for the antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, dietary fibres and amino acids contained in the fruit.
